    1. MIX-DESIGN

Six locations are identified throughout the State of Wisconsin as the potential areas with “soft soils” with collaboration of WisDOT personnel. The mix design with the soils of these locations and the fly ashes from the nearby sources (within the consortium members) are being performed and optimized.

  •     Objectives

    •  Develop a design procedure that engineers can follow.

    •  Develop Construction guidelines.

     2. GEOENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT

Fly ash is one of the most plentiful and versatile of the industrial by-products and has been used as a construction material over the years.  Due to the presence of some potential contaminants in fly ash, its use is often restricted by environmental regulations.  The use of fly ash for subbase stabilization is regulated by NR 538 (Ch. NR 538, Wisconsin Administrative Code) in Wisconsin.

  •     Objectives

    • To conduct an in-situ environmental assessment of fly ash stabilized soil.

    • Leaching behavior and the leaching performance of fly ash stabilized soil with respect to NR 538
